Wakaf Tunai dan Relevansinya dengan Pondok Pesantren di Indonesia
Abstract
Cash waqf is an increasingly relevant financial instrument in supporting the development of Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia. With significant fund potential, cash waqf can be invested for various needs, such as infrastructure development, provision of educational facilities, and development of learning programs. This study aims to analyze the role of cash waqf in improving the quality of education in Islamic boarding schools and its impact on the welfare of the surrounding community. In addition, this study also explores the challenges and opportunities faced by Islamic boarding schools in optimally utilizing cash waqf. The research method used is library research, for references needed in the form of research-related documents, textbooks and journals, articles, both online and through journals. The results of this study are cash waqf has the potential to be a sustainable funding solution for the development of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in Indonesia. With 39,043 pesantren nationwide and an estimated national cash waqf potential of Rp180 trillion per year, pesantren can serve both as managers (nadzir) and beneficiaries (mustahiq) of waqf funds. Their key strengths lie in strong public trust and extensive community networks. However, challenges remain, including limited public understanding of cash waqf, unprofessional management, and weak inter-institutional coordination. To address these issues, solutions include waqf literacy campaigns, capacity-building for waqf managers, digital technology implementation for transparency, and collaboration with the Indonesian Waqf Board (BWI) and Islamic financial institutions. Through these measures, cash waqf can effectively support Islamic education and community welfare.
